OOCL Saw A Decrease In Container Throughput In The Fourth Quarter Of Last Year

OOCL said recently that in the fourth quarter of 2017, the volume of container transport decreased slightly, and the revenue of container transport continued to rise.


The company said that in the fourth quarter of 2017, the volume of containers shipped was 1,612,733 TEU, a decrease of 3.3% from the 1,667,449 TEU for the same period of 2016. The decrease in container throughput was mainly due to a 14.2% YoY decrease in container shipping volume in the Asian region / Oceania region, from 859,196TEU to 736857TEU. The company increased its container handling capacity on other routes. Among them, the trans-Pacific shipping volume increased by 7.5% YoY, the container shipping volume in Asia-Europe increased by 11% YoY and that of trans-Atlantic shipping increased by 5.4% YoY. glenflange


In the fourth quarter of 2017, OOCL's total overseas revenue increased 6% from 1.3 billion U.S. dollars in the same period of 2016 to 1.38 billion U.S. dollars. The company said fourth-quarter revenue growth was mainly driven by the surge in trade revenue from the Asia-Europe line, which increased revenue by 24.3% from a year earlier.


OOCL said its carrying capacity increased 1% in the fourth quarter of 2017, while the overall carrying capacity decreased by 3.7% as compared with the same period in 2016. The overall average revenue per TEU increased by 9.6% over the fourth quarter of last year.glenflange


In 2009, OOCL increased by 3.6% YoY in total. Its total revenue increased 15.4% YoY to reach US $ 5.42bn.
